Stretch's New TV Show

 

"Stretch" Rumaner dropped in the studio to record pick-up lines for his new TV pilot Hungry Men at Work that will air on cable channel SPIKE-TV.  The reality-TV show pairs top-flight chefs with men working dangerous jobs around the world and is hosted by Stretch himself.

For those of you who don't recognize Stretch, he's the owner of two restaurants - Grinders & Grinders West and an art gallery called ZONE.  He's an incredibly talented heavy-metal sculpture artist and a huge fan of live music.  In association with Pipeline Productions, he transformed his sculpture garden behind his restaurants into Crossroads KC @ Grinders - a live music venue. 

He's not a newbie to the TV circuit either; he's appeared on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Discovery Channel's Monster House and Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Guy's Big Bite.  We'll keep you posted on when it'll air!

Sheryl Crow - University of Missouri

We worked on another great MU spot with Bark Productions.  This one stars the nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow.  She is an alum of the school and gave them the rights to use her song.  How cool is that?

Lucasfilm & TomTom

Last week Garmin, in association with Lucasfilm & Locutio Voice Technologies, announced the addition of Star Wars voices to their GPS devices.  Which reminds us that we never shared with you that we worked with Lucasfilm & Locutio Voice Technologies last year to record the Jedi Master Yoda & Darth Vader voices for that other great GPS system TomTom! 

Obviously this isn’t a video of Jim Wheeler recording Darth Vader (this engineer’s mullet is way cooler than Jim’s do), but we haven’t stopped laughing since this short surfaced.  Luckily our session with Matt Sloan & Tom Kane went a whole lot better than this one!

Not Licensing Music = Lawsuit

Pretty much every time.  No matter how you slice it.  You use music illegilly and you'll pay the price.

Here's a perfect example: The Black Keys have filed two separate lawsuits against ad agency Della Femina Rothschild Jeary and Partners for using their song "Tighten Up" in a Valley National Bank spot without consulting them.  According to Rolling Stone, cease-and-desist letters were sent by the label to both the ad agency and the bank, but neither one took action.

We talk about this all the time in the studio.  Just how many people out there actually think they don't need to obtain rights to music put under a TV spot?  What makes them think they're a) entitled to it and/or b) not going to get caught? 

What were they thinking?

 

Another John Jantsch Audio Book

John Jantsch (Kansas City marketing consultant, author & blogger) returned to the studio to record his second audio book with engineer Corey Trentham.  This time it was for his first book Duct Tape Marketing. 

The book is described as a small business marketing road map - a collection of proven tools and tactics woven together in a step-by-step marketing system that shows small business owners exactly what to do to market and grow their businesses.
